Climategate

"Carbon (Dioxide) trading is now the fastest growing commodities market on earth.....And here’s the great thing about it. Unlike traditional commodities markets, which will eventually involve delivery to someone in physical form, the carbon (dioxide) market is based on lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no-one. Since the market revolves around creating carbon (dioxide) credits, or finding carbon (dioxide) reduction projects whose benefits can then be sold to those with a surplus of emissions, it is entirely intangible." (Telegraph)

This blog has been tracking the 'Global Warming Scam' for over ten years now. There are a very large number of articles being published in blogs and more in the MSM who are waking up to the fact the public refuse to be conned any more and are objecting to the 'green madness' of governments and the artificially high price of energy. This blog will now be concentrating on the major stories as we move to the pragmatic view of 'not if, but when' and how the situation is managed back to reality. To quote Professor Lindzen, "a lot of people are going to look pretty silly"

Climate officials officially unhappy

Christopher Booker,Telegraph
"I was naturally intrigued to see the Sunday Telegraph quoted online as reporting that the Department for Energy and Climate Change is showering money on consultants to come up with ways of raising the morale of its staff, because they are “too ashamed to admit where they work”. Although they are “responsible for some of the government’s most important policies”, their ministry is held in such low esteem by the public that this has left them feeling “miserable and disengaged”.

Why had I not read this remarkable story before? Then I noticed that the Sunday Telegraph in question was the one published in Australia. It was reporting on collapsing morale not in our own climate change department but its equivalent in a country where the Labour government’s obsession with solar panels, wind turbines and other green policies has recently led, in Queensland, to the greatest electoral rout in Australian history. This is viewed as a portent for the defeat at federal level of the government of Julia Gillard, whose swingeing “carbon tax” – the one she promised she would not introduce – has been a major factor in its declining fortunes.

Australia is thus the first country in the world where unpopular environmental policies have become a political game-changer, an opportunity we here in Britain have so far been denied by the greenie unanimity of all our major parties. "

Global Weirding: the new Big Lie

Telegraph
"They're calling it Global Weirding now, as I suppose, inevitably they were bound to do in the end. Well "global warming" stopped working in 1989 when the globe stopped warming. Climate change was always a bit of a non-starter because climate does change regardless of whether or not we all drive 4 x 4s, or buy carbon offsets or listen to Stephen Fry and Ron Weasley's injunction to take our holidays in England this year. And Global Climate Disruption, as some pillock tried to christen it, was never going to catch on because, well, it's just too blatantly contrived and desperate isn't it?"

Queensland turns the tide of environmental lunacy

Telegraph
"No administration was "greener" than the one run by departing Queensland premier Anna Bligh. She believed in environmentalism with such a passion she entrusted her beloved husband – Greg Withers: head of Queensland's Office For Climate Change – with the task of turning Queensland into the solar powered, low-carbon, eco-paradise it very nearly is today. I say "very nearly" because incoming premier Campbell Newman has put a stop to all that. One of Newman's first priorities – which is why, of course, Queenslanders voted him in – has been to cancel most of Bligh's green boondoggle programmes. This may in turn have the delightful knock-on effect of undermining eco-lunacy at the national level."

The Enormous CEO Salaries Behind Earth Hour

Donna Laframboise
"More evidence that Earth Hour is the product of a multinational corporate machine rather than small-scale, earnest activists may be found by examining how much the World Wildlife Fund pays its CEOs. Blogger Richard Telofski pointed out last week that Carter Roberts, the CEO of the US branch of the World Wildlife Fund, was paid a total of $455,147 in 2009 – his base salary being $425,000. By comparison, the President of the United States has a base salary of $400,000 and the US Vice President is paid $230,700. In other words, the head of the US branch of the WWF earns more money each year than does the US president – and nearly $200,000 more than does the Vice President."

Re-name “Earth Hour” to “Energy Hour” and base it on sound science

WUWT
"ICSC chief science advisor, Professor Bob Carter of James Cook University in Queensland, Australia and author of the best selling book, “Climate: the Counter Consensus” explained, “Science has yet to provide unambiguous evidence that problematic, or even measurable, human-caused global warming is occurring. The hypothesis of dangerous man-made climate change is based solely on computerized models that have repeatedly failed in practice in the real world.”

Earth Hour: Corporations Preaching Morality

Donna Laframboise
"Well I’m one Canadian who takes a dim view of multinational corporations deciding what my number one concern is. When I want Coke to speak for me, I’ll let it know.

Another Earth Hour partner is furniture retailer IKEA. I love its bookshelves as much as the next person, and I think its quest to reduce packaging deserves applause. But none of that changes the fact that IKEA is a corporate behemoth. It operates stores in 38 countries. Its primary goal is to make money.

There’s nothing wrong with that, but let us not be confused. Businesses are not spiritual leaders. Something has gone terribly awry if corporations think they’re entitled to express an opinion about how I, an adult in a free society, should spend my Saturday night."

Yes, I know, I covered it first: The Medieval Warm Period was Global

Is this finally proof we're NOT causing global warming? The whole of the Earth heated up in medieval times without human CO2 emissions, says new study

Climate Obstinately Refuses to Cooperate with Global Warming Alarmists

Climate Realists
"Temperatures have been essentially flat since 1998, with the exception of another brief 2010 El Nino spike immediately followed by a dramatic 2011 La Nina decline. About half of all estimated warming since 1900 occurred before the mid-1940s despite continuously rising CO2 levels since that time.

Our warm 2011/2012 U.S. winter would have been a very welcome difference from what much of world experienced. A European cold spell killed more than 500. More than 140 perished in the Ukraine, along with hundreds of others in France, Serbia and the Czech Republic. Europe’s 2,860-kilometer Danube that is crucial for transport, power, industry and fishing froze over, as did nearly all rivers in the Balkans. More than 130 villages in Bulgaria went without electricity.

Closer to those of us in the lower forty-eight, Fairbanks, Alaska reported the coldest January temperatures since 1971, with temperatures reaching -24º F. The coldest January average temperature there occurred in 1906 (-36.4º F).

Recent readings taken from more than 30,000 measuring stations that were quietly released by the U.K.’s Met Office and the University of East Anglia University Climate Research Unit show that world temperatures haven’t warmed over the past 15 years. Nor are they likely to for quite awhile. Many scientific studies indicate that the global climate will soon enter a substantial cooling phase attributable to a weak new solar cycle. This is predicted due to important modulating cloud-forming influences of cosmic rays throughout periods of reduced sunspot activity. More clouds tend to make conditions cooler, while fewer often cause warming."

Memo to Education Scotland: Stop Brainwashing our Children with One-Sided State Propaganda on Climate Change

Climate Lessons
"The Royal Societies of Edinburgh and London have failed to defend the wider society from such manipulation and shoddy extrapolation from unconfirmed speculations about the importance of CO2 in the climate system, and so it is all the more refreshing to see a member of the Edinburgh Royal Society taking a more informed, a more independent, and indeed a more civilised approach on climate matters."

How Green Gullibility, Hyperpartisanship Are Wrecking The Climate Movement

WUWT
"One of the biggest intellectual failures of the global green movement against climate change is the persistent failure of its leaders and spokespeople to grasp the way their own advocacy fatally undermines their credibility. They blame cunning, unscrupulous and well funded enemies for disasters that their own inaccuracies, overstatements and disingenuous advocacy have brought on their movement."

Australia's giant kangaroos were killed off by humans, not climate change, say researchers

Daily Mail
"Professor Johnson said the research centred on a swamp called Lynch’s Crater in northeast Queensland, where the sediment record reaches back to 130,000 years ago. He said: ‘It showed that the abundance of large mammals was stable until just before 40,000 years ago, when it suddenly crashed. ‘This rules out climate change as a cause of extinction, as there were several periods of climate drying before the extinction and they had no effect on abundance and when the animals did go extinct, the climate was stable. ‘But the extinctions followed very soon after the time that people arrived in the region - so it seems that people did it.'

The research adds to overwhelming evidence collected by over 1000 scientists that the Medieval Warming Period [MWP] was a global phenomenon. UK Considers New Green Tax To Replace Old GreenTax

GWPF
"U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said he may introduce an environmental tax to replace a carbon-reduction program that’s become a “burden” on business."

The heavy cost of a non-problem

WUWT
"The bottom line: No policy to abate global warming by taxing, trading, regulating, reducing, or replacing greenhouse-gas emissions will prove cost-effective solely on grounds of the welfare benefit from climate mitigation. CO2 mitigation strategies that are inexpensive enough to be affordable will be ineffective; strategies costly enough to be effective will be unaffordable. Focused adaptation to any adverse consequences of any warming that may occur is many times more cost-effective. Since the premium greatly exceeds the cost of the risk, don’t insure. Every red cent spent now on trying to stop global warming is a red cent wasted. Don’t mitigate: sit back, enjoy the sunshine, and adapt only if and when and to the extent necessary. That, however unfashionable, is the economically prudent and scientifically sensible course."

Study: it takes 10 units of alternative electricity sources to offset 1 unit of fossil fuel-generated power

WUWT
"Based on a four-model study of electricity used in some 130 countries in the past 50 years, York found that it took more that 10 units of electricity produced from non-fossil sources — nuclear, hydropower, geothermal, wind, biomass and solar — to displace a single unit of fossil fuel-generated electricity."

Is carbon cutting a waste of time? Figures show Britain's 'footprint' has increased by 20 per cent despite green taxes

Daily Mail
"Ministers were accused of saddling consumers with pointless green taxes last night - as new figures revealed surging imports from developing countries that rely on ‘dirty’ power. Successive governments have boasted that a cocktail of green taxes and expensive wind farms has helped to curb carbon dioxide emissions blamed for global warming. But new official figures reveal that Britain’s so-called ‘carbon footprint’ has increased by 20 per cent in the last two decades as we import ever more from developing countries like China that rely on dirty coal-fired power stations."

The Government plans to hide the rise in 'fuel poverty’ by changing its name

Christopher Booker,Telegraph
"The horrendous impact of this tax is one of many aspects of current “climate policies” which seem to have escaped general notice. In 2010 we burned 40 million tons of coal to make electricity. Every ton burnt produces 2.9 tons of CO2 (as each carbon atom combines with two of oxygen). So the tax on the resulting 116 million tons of CO2 will amount next year to around £1.9 billion. The CO2 emitted by producing 175,000 gigawatt hours of electricity from gas will yield a further £1 billion, bringing the total cost to £2.9 billion, or 15 per cent of the wholesale cost of our electricity.

When the Treasury did its sums on how much this would add to our electricity bills, it did so on the basis that we would already be paying £14.20 a ton for “carbon” under the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), so that the additional cost would not be huge. But what they didn’t allow for was that the price of carbon under the ETS has collapsed to just £6.70 a ton. So next year we will be having to pay nearly £10 a ton more than anyone else in Europe.

By 2030, when the UK carbon tax has risen to £70 a ton, this will represent £500 a year for every household in the country. Add in the £100 billion the Government wants to see spent on windmills over the next eight years, and we can see why they would want to change the definition of “fuel poverty”.

Water: why we are paying more and getting less

Christopher Booker,Telegraph
"Since our water industry was privatised 20 years ago (it is now largely foreign-owned), our total storage capacity, 520 billion gallons, has barely increased. Due to drought, our reservoirs are only 90 per cent full, a shortfall of 50 billion gallons. Yet in the Thames Water area alone, more than 50 billion gallons a year is lost in leaks – fully a third of the total that the Australian-owned company delivers to its customers.

So where have all those tens of billions of pounds that we have handed to the water companies gone, if they haven’t been spent on increasing our water storage, over a period when the population rose by 10 per cent, or on mending leaks? (In Holland, where water is still state-owned, only 6 per cent is lost in leaks.) ....."

Scarce Oil? U.S. Has 60 Times More Than Obama Claims

Climate Change Dispatch
"But the figure Obama uses — proved oil reserves — vastly undercounts how much oil the U.S. actually contains. In fact, far from being oil-poor, the country is awash in vast quantities — enough to meet all the country's oil needs for hundreds of years.

The U.S. has 22.3 billion barrels of proved reserves, a little less than 2% of the entire world's proved reserves, according to the Energy Information Administration. But as the EIA explains, proved reserves "are a small subset of recoverable resources," because they only count oil that companies are currently drilling for in existing fields.

When you look at the whole picture, it turns out that there are vast supplies of oil in the U.S., according to various government reports."

We should have expected this

Dr Richard North
"The BBC is informing us that the EU is calling in member state governments to include data CO2 emissions from farming and forestry in their national inventories of "greenhouse gas" emissions. It is difficult to see how this is news though, as a "new framework" was announced last year. Nevertheless, the commission seems to think it is new, having made the announcement two days ago.

What is sinister about this announcement though, is this is regarded as "a first step towards incorporating removals and emissions from forests and agriculture into the EU's climate policy", with the BBC helpfully pointing out that this will mean eventual inclusion of agriculture (and forestry) in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)."

Fuelling an inconvenient delusion that spells ruin for Scotland

Scotsman on Sunday
"WIND power – more accurately wind impotence, since turbines operate at just 24 per cent of capacity – is the curse of Scotland. One of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe has been brutally ravaged, families have been driven into fuel poverty, pensioners have been presented with the lethal dilemma “heat or eat” – all to appease the neurotic prejudices of global warming fanatics. .....The inefficiency of wind turbines requires perpetual back-up by building gas turbine power stations – running two parallel energy generation systems, each alternately redundant, in times of economic crisis. The fiscal ratchet is turning relentlessly. The Renewables Obligation, introduced in Scotland in 2002, forces electricity suppliers to source an increasing proportion of power from renewables, currently 11.1 per cent and rising. By 2027 this scam will have cost UK customers £32bn. .....The worst enormity of this scheme for the environmental devastation (in the name of saving the environment) and impoverishment of Scotland is that it is all founded on a superstition: the Grande Peur of man-made global warming. Never has science been so shamelessly manipulated. Forget the notorious frauds – the discredited “Hockey Stick”, Al Gore’s misrepresentations of ice-core samples, the Siberian tree rings, the melting Himalayan glaciers, the University of East Anglia emails, the sea levels rising only in computer models, the polar bear population “declining” from 5,000 to 25,000 since 1970 – and go to the original false premise."

The EU has says the tax will help it achieve a goal of cutting carbon emissions by 20 percent by 2020 and that it will not back down on the plan. But more than two dozen countries, including China, Russia and the United States, have opposed the EU move, saying it violates international law."

There’s a real feeling of April 1945, Berlin, der Fuhrerbunker and its mad occupants, barking unrealistic orders down phones and moving long ago destroyed units around on maps, as if it really meant something. It’s all basically becoming more and more hysterical and irrational.

It’s not quite over yet but we’ve beaten them and will have to be satisfied with that. The bitter pill for me, is that none of them will ever stand in a court of law to answer charges of crimes against humanity for the deaths, starvation and poverty that their policies inflicted on the poor around the world. Matt Ridley: The beginning of the end of wind

Matt Ridley
"To the nearest whole number, the percentage of the world’s energy that comes from wind turbines today is: zero. Despite the regressive subsidy (pushing pensioners into fuel poverty while improving the wine cellars of grand estates), despite tearing rural communities apart, killing jobs, despoiling views, erecting pylons, felling forests, killing bats and eagles, causing industrial accidents, clogging motorways, polluting lakes in Inner Mongolia with the toxic and radioactive tailings from refining neodymium, a ton of which is in the average turbine — despite all this, the total energy generated each day by wind has yet to reach half a per cent worldwide."

How much profit will a turbine turn?

Christopher Booker,Telegraph
"Developers of wind farms offer 'sweeteners' to local communities, but they may be tiny compared to the revenues. .....As a rule of thumb, the annual income per MW fed to the Grid from wind energy is around £800,000, half from the sale of the electricity, the other half from the subsidy we all pay through our electricity bills under the Government’s Renewables Obligation. (These can only be rough averages because the value of each varies.) So the income from the Eye turbines might be around £1.6 million a year – which hardly makes the £7,000 offered to the locals for the blighting of their skyline the bargain of the century."
