Climategate

"Carbon (Dioxide) trading is now the fastest growing commodities market on earth.....And here’s the great thing about it. Unlike traditional commodities markets, which will eventually involve delivery to someone in physical form, the carbon (dioxide) market is based on lack of delivery of an invisible substance to no-one. Since the market revolves around creating carbon (dioxide) credits, or finding carbon (dioxide) reduction projects whose benefits can then be sold to those with a surplus of emissions, it is entirely intangible." (Telegraph)

This blog has been tracking the 'Global Warming Scam' for over ten years now. There are a very large number of articles being published in blogs and more in the MSM who are waking up to the fact the public refuse to be conned any more and are objecting to the 'green madness' of governments and the artificially high price of energy. This blog will now be concentrating on the major stories as we move to the pragmatic view of 'not if, but when' and how the situation is managed back to reality. To quote Professor Lindzen, "a lot of people are going to look pretty silly"

The Lie of Climate Change Science

Climate Realists
"Never mind that the whole climate change scam is now driven by the top-level financiers newly eyeing a multi-trillion-dollar paper economy of carbon (dioxide) trading and that this is the reason it’s now a dominant mainstream media and corporate messaging presence.1

Never mind that this paper economy of carbon (dioxide) trading will be the largest financial extortion enterprise since the invention of the US-centered military-backed global finance structure of predation itself.

Never mind that establishment scientists are service intellectuals who virtually never diverge from supporting power, who at best look for sanitized and hypothetical “problems” that do not threaten hierarchy and who feed their false self-image of relevance.2,3 Never mind also the pathetic recent historical record of science with regard to identifying or solving public health and environmental problems.4,5,6

Never mind all that. Take the red pill by considering the climate “science” fairy tale itself and examine its story elements.

Here goes, in five story-element steps. ..."

Twice as many Greens oppose a carbon dioxide tax

Andrew Bolt,Herald Sun (Australia)
"Support for the Government’s carbon pricing scheme has fallen over the last 2 weeks. 34% now support the scheme and 51% are opposed.

Opinion has polarized among voters for the major parties. Support among Labor voters has increased from 55% to 63% while opposition from Coalition voters has increased from 73% to 80%. Support has fallen among Greens voters – 2 weeks ago they split 78% support/11% oppose compared to this week’s 56% support/24% oppose. "

"Looks like less blue to me. We’ve been cooling off for at least 6 years.

So, pretty simple: We’re supposed to be into this whole “Global Warming” thing by about 100 years now. The whole darned industrial revolution and from the 1970′s to date of exceptional growth and development. Supposedly CO2 is running rampant and cooking the globe with “accumulated heat”. OK, where is it? I don’t see it in the graph."

Contrails And Con-Science – In The Service Of Masterplans

"Sometimes timing is everything. Yesterday we looked at how a climate scientist is busy making “masterplans” for transforming our society instead of studying the climate. ......The worst part is that all these “masterplans” are based on flaky, often times fraudulent and alarmist science – all designed to promote panic rather than reason. This has already led to disastrous results (biofuel induced global hunger or landscape desecration by windmills to name two) and will surely lead to even greater disasters."

Osborne tosses £3bn gift to the green elite

The Register
"Last week, Chancellor George Osborne announced a new body that would make loans and issue debt. In a harkback to the 1970s, poorly performing and deeply unprofitable businesses will be the beneficiaries – and investors in them will be rewarded for their poor judgement. So much for moral hazard. ......The body bailing out the basket-cases is a "Green Investment Bank", and the remit was written largely by a group of bankers themselves, called the Green Investment Bank Commission. Led by Bob Wigley, formerly head of Merrill Lynch's European investment side, the Commission included executives of Goldman Sachs, Citibank, and management consultancies Logica and the Oliver Wyman Group. The Commission reported last June, and saw an ambitious role for the new quango:"

"What I seriously doubt though, is whether anyone could think of a worse way of spending £3 billion, than on the grotesque and pointless quango that is the Green Investment Bank headed by Bob Wigley.

The point to note about the Green Investment Bank is that it is based on one massive lie, promulgated by everyone from David Cameron to Chris Huhne to Greg Barker to every other two-bit chancer who wants to get on the Coalition, viz: that green investments and green jobs are the future

The answer Flannery refused to give: just 0.00005 degrees

Andrew Bolt,Herald Sun (Australia)
"Remember how Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery refused to answer my very basic question?

Bolt: On our own, cutting our emissions by 5 per cent by 2020, what will that lower the world’s temperatures by? .......Lord Monckton has been kind enough to give me the straight answer that Flannery et al will not - and his answer explains exactly Flannery’s embarrassed silence:

Q. What is the central estimate of the anthropogenic global warming, in Celsius degrees, that would be forestalled by 2020 if a) Australia alone and b) the whole world cut carbon emissions stepwise until by 2020 they were 5% below today’s emissions? "

North Korea has “Earth Hour” all night every night — but how many of the WWF’s useful idiots actually care to move there?

Poneke,Wellington New Zealand
"Yes, this annual act of bizarre penance is upon us again again. At 8.30pm today, March 26, we are ordered by WWF – the organisation that fabricated the IPCC’s “peer reviewed” claim that the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035 – to turn off the lights that make our nights so bright and liveable. .....But to show the kind of world the human-haters behind Earth Hour want to create, I publish above the stunning sight of the Korean Peninsula from space at night. All the bright lights to the peninsula’s south are in South Korea, a thriving modern economy. The near-black space between it and rapidly modernising China is North Korea, the last remaining Stalinist “workers’ paradise,” which has Earth Hour all night, every night.

How many members of the fantastically wealthy WWF, their fellow travellers and the “useful idiots” across suburbia who will turn out their lights tonight would happily shift there? For that is the kind of planet they are trying to create. "

What did you do for Earth Hour? The (yawn) reality (WUWT)

First, my own experience: Being keenly aware of it days ahead, even I forgot about it at the appointed time, having been distracted by normal family happenings, so I didn’t remember to turn on all my outdoor lights until 8:50PM. Given other news reports, it seems the novelty has worn off, and many many simply either forgot about it or don’t care.

Pointless symbolism isn’t what it used to be I suppose.

Carbon tax is fatal political poison

Tim Blair,The Daily Telegraph (Australia)
"Last week Tim Flannery, Australia's Chief Climate Commissioner, told The Daily Telegraph's Andrew Bolt in a radio interview: "If we cut emissions today, global temperatures are not likely to drop for about a thousand years." A thousand years.

And Flannery wasn't just talking about Australia's minuscule proposed emissions cuts. He was referring to cuts made across the globe. If Flannery keeps coming up with lines like this, he's worth every cent of the $720,000 we're paying him over the next four years to tell us why we'll be better off with a carbon tax.

Forget saving your grandchildren, eco-biddies. According to Flannery, the world won't be safer until your grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren are on the scene."

Julia Gillard's tax to make no difference to climate

Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun (Australia)
"CLIMATE Commissioner Tim Flannery choked when I confronted him with the global warming industry's dirty secret. But he wouldn't - couldn't - deny it.The secret is this: nothing we in Australia do about global warming will actually lower the world's temperature. For all that pain, you'll get no gain.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard's carbon dioxide tax will have you pay more for petrol, electricity and everything made with electricity, but will make zero difference to the climate.Thousands of Australian jobs are about to be thrown away for nothing.I have asked global warming activists like Flannery - now paid by the Government to talk us into accepting its carbon dioxide tax or emissions trading scheme - two critical questions.

These are questions you'd ask any time someone tries to sell you anything from a ShamWow to a new car. How much will it cost? And what will it do? But now watch Flannery fight to avoid confessing to that dirty secret: that Gillard's plans would effectively make no difference to the world's temperature."

MTR today, March 25

Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun (Australia)
"Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery joins us - but refuses to say by how much the world’s temperature will fall thanks to Julia Gillard’s global warming policies. Later he concedes that even if the whole world slashes its emissions we won’t know what difference it will make for maybe a thousand years. Doesn’t sound like much of a deal to me.

- Flannery agrees that Julia Gillard was wrong to say that every reputable climate scientist backs her view of man-made warming. "

No, a whole new category all by itself is reserved for this quote from the newly appointed Climate Commissioner of Australia, Tim Flannery, noted zoologist and author of the book The Weather Makers.

Here it is, brace yourself:

"If we cut emissions today, global temperatures are not likely to drop for about a thousand years. ...Just let me finish and say this. If the world as a whole cut all emissions tomorrow the average temperature of the planet is not going to drop in several hundred years, perhaps as much as a thousand years because the system is overburdened with CO2 that has to be absorbed and that only happens slowly."

But he's spending billions to shore up his LibDem allies

Daily Mail
"The second Liberal issue to be given a major boost yesterday was the environment.

First, Chris Huhne got his way as the Government pledged to introduce a carbon price floor from 2013. This obscure-sounding change will herald a profound and expensive shift in electricity generation in Britain. It involves taxing conventional – gas and coal – energy producers, pushing up their costs, and forcing them to raise the price they charge for electricity as a result. This then benefits renewable energy producers – and nuclear power – because they can get away with charging more for their more-expensive-to-generate electricity.

The result will be to push up the cost of electricity for all of us, at a time when it’s rising anyway because of world oil prices increases. This will be hard for ordinary households, with average bills up 6 per cent by 2016, and difficult for industry as well.

Yes, it raises money for the Treasury – £1.4billion a year by 2015 – but however green the Tories are these days, it’s unlikely they would have embraced it so enthusiastically outside the Coalition.

Nor is that the end of the cash for greenery. Another pet Liberal Democrat project, the Green Investment Bank, which is supposed to put funds into green projects, has already been given £1billion of Government cash, and is now to be handed another £2billion of our money to invest. We can be fairly certain that much of the money will be thrown away as civil servants hand out cash to dubious green causes without proper financial checks. After all, if these green investments are so brilliant, why aren’t they getting cash from conventional banks?"

Japan: whatever happened to the nuclear meltdown?

Telegraph
"Amazing, isn’t it, what a little light military intervention can do to a nuclear crisis?

One minute, the world is facing nuclear meltdown armageddon to rank with – ooh, Three Mile Island at the very least, and quite possibly Chernobyl. A few (shockingly expensive) missile strikes over Benghazi and Tripoli later, though, and the Japanese nuclear crisis has all but vanished from the face of the earth.......One of those ridiculous people is – inevitably – the noisome Energy Secretary Chris Huhne. In true Rahm Emanuel style he is using the perceived crisis as an excuse to push forward his anti-nuclear, eco-loon agenda. He claims:

“We can do the 80 per cent reduction in emissions by 2050 without new nuclear, but it will require a big effort on carbon capture and storage and renewables.”

If implemented this will most assuredly cause brown-outs and tremendous economic damage by the time the energy gap begins to widen in 2020. But since Huhne will no longer be in office then and since he is wealthy enough not to have to face the consequences of his political stupidity this is unlikely to bother him."

So much spin

Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun (Australia)
"Two excellent questions from the Nationals leader, Warren Truss, in Question Time today.

First, he asked, had Julia Gillard in fact conceded on Q&A that even had she won government in her own right she would have broken this election promise?:

And so today I announce that if we are re-elected, I will develop a dedicated process – a Citizens’ Assembly – to examine over 12 months the evidence on climate change, the case for action and the possible consequences of introducing a market-based approach to limiting and reducing carbon emissions… This means I will act when the Australian economy is ready and when the Australian people are ready.

You see, on Q&A last week, she said this:

if I’d been elected into a majority government what I would have done is legislated an emissions trading scheme...

From Gillard, no direct answer - because none was possible. "

Bob Ward boobs again over rainfall records

The attack dog for the warmists, Bob Ward, came back for another bite, and missed again, says Christopher Booker. (Telegraph)
"...he yet again took me to task for suggesting that autumn 2000 was not the wettest in south-west England since records began. But to make his point, he had to misquote what I said. What I referred to were the figures for maximum one-day rainfall. According to Met Office records, in November 1931 this was slightly higher, at 50.5mm, than the figure for October 2000, which was 49mm.

Mr Ward may be tireless in the ingenuity with which he tries to make his points, but it is uncanny how often he falls flat on his face. "

Why we should be afraid -- very afraid -- of Julia Gillard's fantasies

Terry McCrann From: The Australian
"If she actually believes the nonsense she spouted, spontaneously first and then with consideration aforethought, we have a leader with all the save-the-world enthusiasm and profound ignorance of a junior high school student. ....On Q&A she asserted that it was simply not true that we were the only ones moving to attack carbon pollution (sic). China was closing down a dirty coal-fired power-generation facility at the rate of every one to two weeks, she asserted. And it was putting up a wind turbine at the rate of one every hour, she added.

The picture she set out to paint was of China replacing dirty coal with clean wind. The truth is, as we've noted through the week, that China is not simply replacing coal with coal but dramatically increasing coal-fired generation.

Yes, it is closing really dirty coal-fired stations: the ones that pump out those little bits of grit that used to blanket our cities and which Gillard & Co are deliberately seeking to inject into the community's consciousness with their references to carbon pollution.

Real pollution has long since been banished from our coal-fired power stations and our cities. Smog no longer kills thousands of Londoners every year. But it is still killing thousands in Chinese cities.

And not just in China. A World Health Organisation report in 2005 noted that more than half the world's population relied on dung, wood, crop waste or coal to meet their most basic energy needs.

Cooking and heating with such solid fuels on open fires or stoves without chimneys led to indoor air pollution, including small soot or dust particles that were able to penetrate deep into the lungs.

Every year, this sort of real carbon pollution was responsible for the death of 1.6 million people, WHO wrote in 2005. If anything it would be worse today.

That is the real carbon pollution. Not the carbon dioxide that is the target (the only target) of her tax; the real pollution that is precisely avoided by our centralised existing clean, yes clean, coal-fired power stations."

New IPCC lead author, one word: strange

WUWT
"And you thought railroad engineer Pachauri was odd…

Donna Laframboise of “No Frakking Consensus” does some digging, and what she turns up about the new IPCC lead author is to say the least, strange. Some excerpts:

In 1994, Kovats was one of only 21 people in the entire world selected to work on the first IPCC chapter that examined how climate change might affect human health. She was 25 years old. Her first academic paper wouldn’t be published for another three years. It would be six years before she’d even begin her doctoral studies and 16 years before she’d graduate.

EDITORIAL: Ending the global-warming argument. Leftist resort to the courts is sign of desperation

The Washington Times
"Ever since the Climategate e-mail scandal exposed how Mr. Mann’s graph used “a trick” to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, public support also has declined for the fable that cosmic irritation at mankind’s exhalations has made things hotter by an imperceptible one-third of one degree over the course of a decade. In 2000, media-driven climate hysteria peaked with 72 percent of those surveyed by Gallup indicating they were worried about global warming. That number fell to 51 percent in a Gallup poll released Monday, with four in 10 Americans saying the seriousness of global warming was being exaggerated.

Lawmakers sense this skepticism in their constituents and can no longer get away with pursuing policies that sacrifice jobs and economic prosperity on the pagan altar of warmism. The House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 34-19 on Tuesday to adopt the “Energy Tax Prevention Act” which denies the EPA any authority to regulate water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane and other naturally occurring gases as if they were actual pollutants. On Tuesday, Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, promised a vote on the Senate version of the bill introduced by Sen. James M. Inhofe, Oklahoma Republican, and his 43 co-sponsors, only to retreat the next day when it became apparent Mr. Inhofe had more support than expected.

It’s time for the Supreme Court to put the states’ bogus argument on ice."

The Strange Case of Sari Kovats

Donna Laframboise, (Toronto, Canada)
"Two weeks ago I blogged about how difficult it was to confirm the date in which Sari Kovats, a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), had received her PhD. In the interim, there have been a number of developments. ...I am pleased, therefore, to report that Kovats did, indeed, receive her PhD in June 2010. ....According to the document the school produced, Kovats was born in 1969 and became a part-time doctoral student in 2001. Selling climate doom

Quadrant Online
"The problem with climate science is that, as with any religion, there are diametrically opposed beliefs, each of which has its followers, and each of which vociferously claims to represent the truth. Research is moving away from active questioning of the science toward manipulation of public opinion. Playing the game of politics is much more fun than continuing with what is turning out to be fairly mundane research. Running ever-bigger computer models of an inherently uncertain climate system is not as intellectually rewarding as it was. "

And this, she said, was why Australia had to cut its own emissions, too.

Yes, nuclear power plants are dangerous. But for Britain, the alternative is to start hoarding candles

Daily Mail

"Chris Huhne, the British Government’s Lib Dem Energy Secretary and a crusader for renewables, is a dogged opponent of nuclear power.Only yesterday he called for more ambitious carbon emission targets to cut Western energy use, even though many economists believe such policies will grievously erode our industrial competitiveness.Huhne is likely to be prominent among ministers who argue that the Japanese disaster reinforces the arguments against new atomic power stations. Yet some of us believe that if his brand of woolly sentiment prevails, it will deal a body blow to Britain’s future. .....Accidents in the oil and coal industries have killed and continue to kill far more people than nuclear power ever has.

Almost every course of action that societies adopt demands a balancing of choices, acceptance of some risk.

Many sensible economists and industrialists think we should be much more frightened than we are about the prospect that amid worsening energy shortages and rising oil prices, by the end of the decade this country will face a crunch that the Government is doing nothing to avert.I believe that Chris Huhne’s commitment to Lib Dem green nonsense makes him a menace as the Government’s minister responsible for energy. He pretends that renewables (wind generation foremost among them) can solve most of our problems, which is a huge untruth. In the winter of 2009, Britain’s 2,800 hugely subsidised and vastly expensive turbines provided just 0.7  per cent of our energy needs.

The truth is that however many more windmills we put up, nothing alters the simple fact that the wind, especially in southern Britain, blows too little and too erratically to make turbine generation a credible mainstay of our power requirements."

The warmists’ 10 biggest fibs

1. We must address carbon (sic) pollution (sic) by introducing a carbon (sic) tax.

2. We need to link much more closely with the climate emergency.

3. Putting a price on carbon (sic) will punish the big polluters (sic).

4. Putting a price on carbon (sic) is the right thing to do; it’s in our nation’s interest.

5. Putting a price on carbon (sic) will result in lower carbon dioxide emissions.

6. We must catch up with the rest of the world, who are already taxing carbon dioxide emissions.

7. Australia should show leadership, by setting an example that other countries will follow.

8. We must act, and the earlier we act on climate change the less painful it will be.

9. The cost of action on carbon (sic) pollution (sic) is less than the cost of inaction.

10. There is no do-nothing option in tackling climate change.

Now read on as Professor Carter treats each of these slogans with a strong dose of truth. "

Japan earthquake: Many are the terrors of the earth, but they're not our fault

Boris Johnson, Telegraph
"The Japan earthquake wasn't caused by our lust for oil, or the Western banking system, or failure to invest in early warning systems. It wasn't caused by our slowness to meet the Kyoto CO2 targets or poor old Prince Andrew's negotiations with Middle Eastern despots (all of which, by the way, were done entirely at the behest of the blooming Foreign Office), or by any other aspect of human immorality.

The most important lesson from the Japan earthquake is that there are no lessons for human behaviour; and over the next few days it is vital that we watch out for the preachers and the moralisers who will try to use it to further their campaigns."

Did 'climate change' cause the Japanese earthquake?

Telegraph
"No.

But that hasn’t stopped one or two unscrupulous environmentalists trying to make the spurious connection. Top prize for shamelessness goes to one Staffan Nilsson, president of an EU offshoot called the European Economic and Social Committee."

Yet more news from this international "global warming" scam...

- Mark, Kent, 11/3/2011 16:52

Doesn't the simple fact that these "archaeological treasures" are there mean that it was warmer in the past and then froze - now it's getting warmer again. In other words while they prove "Global Warming" is happening they also prove Man Made Global Warming is a fallacy, or that centuries ago humans managed to reverse the warming of their time by banning and taxing CO2.

- Stephen, Esh Winning England, 11/3/2011 14:45

funny that... obviously it wasn't frozen back then when the tombs etc. were made... so we're returning to a previous state ie. out of an ice age proper... IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH MAN BURNING FOSSIL FUELS....

- paul cooke, gloucester england, 11/3/2011 8:18

You might be interested in knowing that the planet has been warmer than this about 600 years ago and it survived. This was before factories and cars were made! Earth is now cooling down, NOT warming up as we are being told time and again. We are being lied to when 'scientists' say that there is global warming. Up to now, 6,000 real scientists have said that the figures were massaged previously, in order to get the global warming scandal underway. Time to wake up folks, global warming and climate change are a myth perpetuated by those scaremongers who just want to literally tax the air you breathe. Do your own research and don't be led by what you read in the media.

Quote of the day

Bishop Hill
"This was apparently posted to the comments on Christopher Booker's article today:

'I have worked in government for 28 years as an economist, and for the last 20 years I have worked on environmental programs. In that time I have not seen a shred of evidence to justify global warming, let alone man made global warming and I have not seen a shred of evidence that there is going to be a green economic boom. The only evidence I have seen is that there is a green economic bust, that money invested in green technologies is usually wasted and simply consumes investment that could be better used elsewhere. .....

Alfred S: Australian schoolboy; climate hero

James Delingpole,Telegraph
"I’ve had some good news on the climate war front which I’m looking forward to telling you about next week. For every new 'green' job, nearly four are lost

Christopher Booker,Telegraph
"...Last week, after making only 400 vehicles in four years, the firm, Modec, sacked half its workforce and went into administration with debts of £40 million.

Meanwhile, in Australia, ridicule greeted a radio interview with Jill Duggan, a senior British official with the European Commission, who is playing a key role in the EU’s bid to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 per cent by 2020. Taken aback at being faced by two well-informed sceptics, she admitted she had no idea how many hundreds of billions of euros this would cost, or how much it could hope to achieve by way of reducing global temperatures. Nevertheless she claimed that “tackling climate change” has created “over a million new jobs” in Europe, including “many hundreds of thousands in the UK”.

Citing a new study which estimates that diverting £330 million into renewable energy destroyed 3.7 British jobs last year for every one created, the interviewers suggested that, with an unemployment rate of 10 per cent, there didn’t seem to be much Europe could teach Australia".

The Drumming of an Army

Clive James (Standpoint)
"There was nothing wrong with the weather, only with their expectations. As any Aboriginal might have told them had they known how to ask, the Australian climate is simply like that. For Queensland, this has been one of several floods in a hundred years, and not even the worst. Though the fashionable propaganda about the unprecedented nature of the inhospitable weather has been largely the product of inner-city intellectuals who rarely see the inland except when they fly over it on their way to another city, the truth is that even a city-dweller will catch on to the facts if he or she lives long enough..."

Don’t know the cost, don’t know if it works

Andrew Bolt,Herald Sun (Australia)
"The two basic questions with any purchase. How much does it cost? Will it do the job?

Jill Duggan is from the European Commission’s Directorate General of Climate Action. She is the EC’s National Expert on Carbon Markets and Climate Change. She was head of Britain’s International Emissions Trading. She is in Australia to tell us how good Europe’s emission trading system is and why we should do something similar.

No one, therefore, should better know the answers to the two most basic questions about this huge scheme. The cost? The effect?.

So on MTR yesterday, I asked them. Duggan’s utter inability to answer is a scandal - an indictment of global warming politics today.= (listen here): ..."

Aussie sceptics destroy EU carbon commissioner

Telegraph
"Is this the best five minutes of radio in the history of broadcasting? I think it might be. Have a listen and judge for yourself.

It’s an Australian interview with Jill Duggan, a British woman who you almost certainly won’t have heard of, but who yet holds the economic future of an entire continent in her grasp. As an expert on carbon markets for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action, Duggan will help mastermind the EU’s bold – and massively expensive – plans to reduce Europe’s carbon emissions by 20 per cent by 2020. In the process she will of course destroy every last vestige of 550 million people’s economic future: but until now – as is evident from her stumbling and surprise – no one has really called her on it."

Germany Dumps Global Warming - Climate Disruption is Last Green Gasp

Climate Realists
"The FMER, however, was not quite letting go of the global warming narrative as it reared its ugly head more than once in the press announcement. But in a bait and switch move that U.S. President, Barack Obama would have been proud of the Germans obfuscated their outmoded global warming hype amongst the increasing and contradictory body of evidence showing cooling. Taking lessons from the Whitehouse the German version of the global warming spin machine has now switched over to a ‘climate disruption’ narrative instead. "

The great “carbon pollution” lie

Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun (Australia)
"For if carbon dioxide can be called “carbon pollution”, in this or any other universe, in this or any other reality, well then rain has to be called “hydrogen pollution”. The reason the term is used by Gillard is an exercise of quite deliberate despicable dishonesty."

-----------
Carbon not the same thing as CO2
"The second great lie is that so-called "de-carbonising our economy" as a consequence of "putting a price on carbon" is the 21st century equivalent of the tariff reforms of the 1980s.In fact it is the exact opposite: it is the equivalent of imposing tariffs on the Australian economy. This is true whether or not the rest of the world follows. It's just that much worse if we do it solo. This lie has been peddled not just by the government but also by Treasury. Be afraid, be really afraid that we have a Treasury which is that incompetent.Cutting tariffs and other forms of protection removed artificial costs that were imposed on both producers and consumers. It enabled them to buy especially goods but also services at the lowest competitive price.

The carbon tax or an ETS (emissions trading scheme) does the exact opposite. It imposes a totally artificial additional cost, in its case, on everything consumers and business buy.It forces us to pay -- totally artificially -- higher prices for energy than we could otherwise, like right now, pay for it."

The Age and Herald confess - we’re hyping global warming

Andrew Bolt,Herald Sun (Australia)
"The truth is that Earth Hour is not just stupid but a proven dud, with only these Pravdas of the green movement having the hide to declare that Kerr has suddenly made it and the green hype behind it “so hot”.

The Age and SMH would rather print this advertising copy than a sober, clearly written exposition of global warming theory and the serious problems emerging with it - as Quadrant has so responsibly done in its current edition.

Now that’s journalism, and not surprisingly, alas, it took three non-journalists - Geoffrey Lehmann, Peter Farrell and Dick Warburton - to do it. "

There is nothing 'smart' about rationing electricity

Telegraph
"Though I say it myself it couldn’t be coming out at a more desperate time. To show how desperate, let us consider the words of Steve Holliday, chief executive of the National Grid, interviewed last week on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

“The grid is going to be a very different system in 2020, 2030. We keep thinking that we want it to be there and provide power when we need it. It is going to be much smarter than that. We are going to change our own behaviour and consume it when it is available and available cheaply.”

I have one simple question here: what on earth is this imbecile still doing in his job?"

Transport Secretary Philip Hammond reveals his ignorance of wind power

Christopher Booker, Telegraph
"When it was reported recently that a Dutch company, Eneco, is to build the world’s largest offshore wind farm, covering 76 square miles off the Dorset coast, the media mindlessly parroted a claim that its 240 turbines will be able to generate 1200MW, “enough to power 820,000 homes”. In fact, thanks to the intermittency of the wind, their actual output would average little more than 300MW, equivalent to the needs of only 125,000 homes. Yet for this we will be paying three times the market rate, including a subsidy of £250 million a year. "

"....However, "hide the decline" is an entirely different matter. This is not a complicated technical matter on which reasonable people can disagree: it is a straightforward and blatant breach of the fundamental principles of honesty and self-criticism that lie at the heart of all true science. The significance of the divergence problem is immediately obvious, and seeking to hide it is quite simply wrong. The recent public statements by supposed leaders of UK science, declaring that hiding the decline is standard scientific practice are on a par with declarations that black is white and up is down. Shut down Australia and save 0.01 degrees

Jo Nova
"The key question — with all the billions spent on cutting Australia’s carbon production: the trade and income lost; the jobs cut; the pain of living near wind farms; the foreign holidays avoided and then paying more for petrol and electricity than we have too — how many degrees will our actions cool the world by?

Assuming the IPCC are right about the effects of CO2, and that Australia stopped producing CO2 entirely (if we all left the country) by 2100 the world would be 0.0123 degrees cooler, and sea levels would be 2mm lower. These are so small they are unmeasureable."

The Economic Impact of Renewable Energy Policy in Scotland and the UK

Download here (Verso Economics,March 2011 )
"The report’s key finding is that for every job created in the UK in renewable energy, 3.7 jobs are lost. In Scotland there is no net benefit from government support for the sector, and probably a small net loss of jobs."
"IV. The main policy tool used to promote renewable energy generation is the Renewables Obligation, which effectively raises the market price paid for electricity from renewable sources. This scheme cost electricity consumers £1.1bn in the UK and around £100m in Scotland in 2009/10. The UK government plans similar schemes to promote renewable heat and renewable fuels.
V. In addition, both the UK and Scottish Governments have introduced a wide range of grants and subsidies for the renewables industry. These are estimated at £188m UK wide and an additional £22m in Scotland in 2009/10. Further, an exemption from the Climate Change Levy for renewable generation costs HMRC £77m UK wide and £25m in Scotland in lost tax revenue. " (H/T Andrew Bolt,Herald Sun, Australia)

Coldest Back-to-Back U.S. Winters in a Quarter Century

World Climate Report
"As the curtain falls on the climatological winter (December-February) of 2010-11 in the U.S., we are left shivering.

For the second year in a row, the winter temperature when averaged across the contiguous United States came in below the average temperature for the 20th century. This marks the first time since the winters of 1992-93 and 1993-94 that two winters in a row have been below the long-term normal, and it makes for the coldest back-to-back winter combination for at least the past 25 years.
